The passion for optics was passed down through the Kirk family, with Jason’s father, and much of his family working as opticians. From the age of three, Jason spent every Saturday perched on the reception desk at his father’s practice in Kingsbury listening, learning and exploring.
Despite being the third generation in his family to enter the industry, Jason wasn't always set on this path, and originally studied French at university and had an early career in publishing, then a spell working as a sales and marketing manager for L’Oreal!
It wasn’t until 1992, when clearing out his father’s old practice, that he found a box containing two hundred beautiful frames that his grandfather had created dating from the 1950s and 60s. They inspired him to such an extent that when he was made redundant from L’Oreal that same year, he used his severance package to make copies of his grandfather’s glasses which he then sold to famous designers, such as Helen Storey!
