We love being based in Brighton it's one of the coolest places to spend a European summer.
Famed for our all year round glorious sunshine, as soon as the sun peeps out, the Brighton beaches are mobbed but scooch west and you can enjoy the quieter pleasures of Hove.
Hungry? We can recommend Cin Cin, a neighbourhood italian restaurant, there;s one in Hove and another in Brighton. The Holy Phok in Hove is superb, but you'll need to book in advance. For vegetarians Terre à Terre or Food for Friends in the South Laines. Keeping it simple, Foodilic on North Street offers a delicious, healthy buffet.
Cocktails at The Potting Parlour is always a treat or move a little further out to Kemp Town where The Black Dove always has a great vibe. If you don't want to venture that far, then The Mesmerist is a great place to unwind and often has excellent live music.
The Royal Pavilion, Brighton's own pocket-sized Taj Mahal is essential viewing but nestled in the Royal Pavilion Gardens is Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, currently showing a great Gilbert and George exhibition until the 2nd September. It's worth taking a tour around the pavillion too, some of the rooms are incredible.
Need somewhere to sleep? There are a whole host of hotels of varying styles and budgets in Brighton and Hove. There is so much competition so the standard needs to be high right the way across the board but we love The Griffin Hotel
In downtown Brighton wander through The Laines - a maize of independent and individual shops to discover local artists and characters. Check out The Jewel Thief and another local favourite Gresham Blake Menswear, womenswear and bespoke threads.
As you would expect there is a wealth of top quality vintage stores. We recommend Immediate on Sydney Street in the North Laines where the clothing has a mod edge to it and is beautifully curated.
Brighton and Hove are also home to a number of great independent opticians.
You can find exciting eyewear for all budgets and we recommend Taylor-West & Co in Hove, right opposite the Town Hall where you can try on the likes of Anne et Valentin alongside a fine selection of Kirk & Kirk frames.
Right in the centre of Brighton, we love the atmosphere in Frames In The Lanes
Venture a little further out to London Road by the new Open Market and discover some interesting stalls including a rather fantastic cheese vendor. There is also a great optician on the edge of the market called The Specky Wren.
