The family Kirk is the emblem of British craftsmanship. With their glasses, produced since 1919, marked an era made of style, simplicity and detail. The innovative design of the frames is their forte and we have them interviewed to find out what secrets are hidden behind a factory so perfect.

rn

As the brand has evolved over the years?

rn

After more than twenty years spent designing glasses we created Kirk & Kirk, in 2013, to produce frames that reflect our passion for glasses and that they could be produced in high quality in France.

rn

We launched the collection in Paris in October 2014, but it moved very quickly. The frames were immediately snapped up by the best optics in the world, including Selima Optique in New York and LA Eyeworks in Los Angeles.

rn

Who is your customer?

rn

Who wears Kirk & Kirk is a very independent person and do not like that you are told what to wear. Does not follow the labels and appreciates style and quality. The eyewear is a great way to express your personality!

rn

What are the main features of the collection Vivarium?

rn

Vivarium The collection is handmade in France in acrylic. We use a beautiful Italian acrylic, which is very light compared to the metal used to make glasses, acetate, and so it is extremely comfortable to wear. The sterling silver and decorations in the shape of animal in nine carat gold inspired by the eccentric Victorian scientists and their relationship with nature. We like to animate our glasses, bring them to life.

rn

Which star would you like wearing your glasses?

rn

David Bowie, Rita Ora.

rn

You and Transitions. How is this collaboration?

rn

Transitions lenses are high performance, comfortable and have many practical applications. Teaming up with Transitions have the opportunity to express a different way of wearing glasses and allows Transitions lenses to be part of the decision making process when buying a frame.

rn

Where do you sell your glasses in Italy?

rn

In Rome in the store Astrologer.

rn

Glasses and fashion, what is the perfect combination?

rn

It’s a cliché, but a pair of glasses says very personal style of someone and how you feel when wearing it. Fashion says that the style is “in” or “out” – if you find the right pair of glasses in itself, you can wear them forever.

rn

As a combined technique and style?

rn

Respecting the material with which you work, without trying to reinvent the wheel. Many frames are excessive because of technical progress, particularly in China, and people want to be different at all costs without regard to the materials they work with. We like the exact opposite; work exploring new materials and ideas, but always respecting the know-how of craftsmanship that is a pair of glasses made in a workmanlike manner.

rn

The eyewear still has something to say? to explore?

rn

There is always something to say when you talk to us. We evolve continuously and discover new ways to express ourselves. There are some designer glasses that are incredible and there is still much innovation to be seen.
